Better legislation for process servers

Colorado needs better legislation to insure that process servers (those performing the same tasks as the Sheriff's Office) be held to the highest standard of accountability.

We should be required to be licensed and registered (me and my company are already) though it is not currently a state requirement. Most all states have some sort of registration requirements.

We should be required to pass a background check as we have access to confidential and sensitive information (me and my company have passed both Colorado Bureau of Investigations and the Department of Homeland Security background checks).

As an industry we should have limited police powers including arrest powers. Some states it is a felony to even touch a process server in the course of carrying out their official duties as a public servant performing a government function (same as Sheriff's Deputy).

We are not interested in becoming law enforcement per se., but at least be able to effectively perform and carry out our public service as required by current Colorado Statutes.
