Newbie Advisor Blog

Since I have a lot of experience in being a newbie and can still remember what I went through getting on the internet for the first time and being bombarded with internet opportunities before I was ready to understand what it took to work them, I've become a sort of newbie adviser and have written quite a few articles to help newbies make sense of all the jargon and learn a simpler way of doing things than the "experts" really want to teach you.

I've recently starting creating videos to help newbies do simple basic things like setting up a Paypal Account or using a tabbed browser when doing simple tasks to make them faster and easier to do. I'll be adding new ones as time goes by. So if you're interested in seeing some of what I'm doing, go to http://www.youtube.com and look me up. My id there is heartuvgold.

Have You Heard of the Gentle Mentor?

There's a chat room for just about every subject imaginable these days. Peruse the popular Paltalk chat rooms (the largest service of its kind for "live" interaction) and you'll find everything from instruction on day trading futures and Forex, to support groups for your overweight guinea pig.

According to Gary Bacchetti (aka The Gentle Mentor) who teaches Internet Marketing tips and tricks to Newbies on the service, it was a room waiting to happen. "I can't believe no one paid attention to this struggling group."

On the service there were several marketers pushing MLM programs but appeared to be little more than hype rooms. "Find a need and fill it - and that's exactly what I did." I feel like the Pied Piper of Internet Marketing for Newbies."

Aspiring entrepreneurs pop in nightly, thirsty for information about autoresponders, list building secrets, tips, tricks, shortcuts, what works and doesn't work.

Bacchetti helps beginners avoid the myriad of sucker traps, what he calls the "Yeah Right" ads - ads so ridiculous they probably warrant a welcome visit from the Federal Trade Commission.

Bacchetti and his newbies meet Monday evenings at 8:00 p.m. eastern. The extreme popularity of the program made it necessary to add Saturday afternoon at 1:00 eastern in order to accommodate oversea marketers.

In addition to "live" training in the chat room, the course incorporates gotowebinar.com enabling dozens of viewers to watch Bacchetti's screen in "real-time."

The course is a newbies dream, the perfect answer to, "OK, so now what do I do?"

How Do You Know For Sure if it's a Scam?

There are a lot of sites on the internet that the owner may start out with good intentions and then things go wrong, as they often do and people are disgruntled and start reporting that it's a scam. I've seen it happen many times.

But then there are some sites that just smell fishy. There's just something about them that screams SCAM and you know that there's no way that they could pay the amount of money they claim to pay and still stay afloat.

Even when people report these sites, they have to have some type of proof or they can be sued for slander or liable. So how do you go about proving that a site is a scam?

One way is to pay close attention to the red flags that come up, for instance, if the owner/admin isn't available or they have false contact information or worse, no contact information.

Check the whois database. Run the domain name at whois.net and look to see who owns the site and how long it's been in operation. Check the information on the site against the information at whois. If they don't match, it's probably not legit. You might also search for it on the high traffic scam report sites like scam.com and see if there have been any previous reports.

Check the statistical information, such as how much has been paid in/out and how many members are online. If it doesn't change, then the owner is probably just manipulating the script to show what he wants to show.

Last but not least, talk to people and get their experiences with this site. Have they been paid? Have they been in contact with the owner? Were they friendly or did they evade certain questions?

Before you invest any money in anything online, make sure you do your due diligence and check out everything you can to make reasonably sure that it's legitimate and don't just take someone's word for it.

If you have any doubt about a site or business opportunity, make a report and we will be more than happy to check it out for you.

Nadia Alma Marie is Here!
Nadia Alma Marie Hererra, daughter of Shanna Rae Beasley
and Raul Hererra, was born on February 13th at 12:18 PM.
She weighed 8 lbs and 9 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long.
Her apgar score was 9.9 on both counts! Which is rare.
Only doctors babies get a 10.

The birth was amazing to behold. My daughter didn't even let out a whimper
and had nothing for pain and didn't even get stitches. She's only 5 feet tall
and this was her first baby. I know Grampa would have been proud.

When it Rains It Pours!
The last couple of weeks have been really crazy and chaotic to say th e least, but in a good way... sort of. LOL

My new grandbaby girl will be here in less than two weeks and with all the preperation for her birth we've all been scrambling to get the housework done and make sure everything is in place to make a smooth transition for her and my daughter to have the comfort they need when she arrives.

The other day the insulation in the attic got weighed down by rain and we found out that we had a huge hole in our roof that had caused it. We didn't know this until the kitchen ceiling caved in and dumped wet insulation on top of everything we had just washed and had ready to put away. LOL Oh well...

Thank God for his goodness and mercy. He sent us a huge blessing when one day last week a friend of ours "imposed on us" by dropping off a young man who needed a place to stay. As it turns out he is a master plumber and expert remodelor!

He is also c ute:) He and my daughter became boyfriend and girlfriend and have been working together to get all the work done  and the remodeling is moving along very quickly. By the time the baby comes we'll have a nice place and it's all because God knew what was about to happen and He made sure that our needs were met even before we  ever had to ask!

This week I'm being nominated for POTW at Adland Pro and I hope that the next week proves to be one of new beginnings and I am very much looking forward to service with a servant/leader attitude that will convey my faith in God and that it will spill over  to others as I work hard to help them to be who they can be.

My prayer for Adland Pro is that we will all find ourselves learning from our mistakes and moving forward to a whole new world of communication and sharing with each other.

Thank you all for voting for me.

God bless,
Rebecca Beasley

Ethical Marketing Practices: Are You Scamming and Don't Even Know It?
If you're doing an opportunity that is a ponzi or other unethical business model, you're pretty much as guilty of scamming as the owners of the opportunity. You might be making money hand over fist and think that you're doing a good deed by offering others a way to make money, but actually, if the program isn't ethical, and you're promoting it to people, then you're not being ethical either.

If you want to keep your good name and not be counted amongst the scammers, then be sure that you read the terms and conditions and do your due dilligence on every business opportunity that you are considering becoming a part of. And if it looks bad to you, then don't sign up. It's that simple.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Beasley

Common Social Networking Mistakes

Common Social Networking Mistakes

Date Sunday, November 25th 2007, 1:14 PM Icon 8 Date 2

There are a few mistakes that people make when using social networking sites to try to get more exposure their business. These mistakes can be minor and not amount to much, or they can be fatal and cause you to lose your business and never make contact with anyone.

Naked Profile.
If you try to use social networks by just signing up and send bulletins and emails to people, you're missing the point entirely. If you don't have a profile that's the first thing people notice. You've already ruined your credibility and made yourself look like a scammer. Anyone who doesn't take the time to at least set up a simple bio page has nothing to present. Even if you add friends, what are they going to see? No one wants to do business with someone they don't know. To them you're like a stranger lurking in the shadows with no real identity. You also want to have a nice picture of yourself so they will see it when your activity comes up in the search engine of the site. If you don't have a picture people see you as the default no pic blank photo and this makes you look like you're not professional or trustworthy.

Your About Me Page is all about your business opportunity
This makes you look like you're broke and you need someone to sign up for your opportunity because you need to pay your light bill. Your about page should be about you and who you really are. It's not the place to promote or advertise. People want to know you, not what you do or how much money you make.

Too much hype
We already know that your business is the next best thing since buttered bread, but when you have too much hyped up claims about how your business is making you a millionaire in three days, we can see right through it. If you're that rich why do you need to use social networks at all? You should be on a warm sunny beach somewhere enjoying your good fortune.

Sending ads in comments and friend emails.

Oh boy..that one is a big no no. When you use your friend's comment box to post an ad or banner for your business, you've shot yourself in the foot. Do you honestly think they'll sign up for your business just because you shove it down their throat?

Put a link or a banner on your profile just in case someone wants to know what you do, but the main thing you want to do is present YOURSELF as someone who is credible and has a handle on who you are as a person.

Social networking is all about making friends, being helpful, and being REAL.
People want to do business with people they can identify with and who they can get to know as a friend first and foremost.

If they want to know what you're doing to make money online they will ASK YOU. Then you have the opportunity and the PERMISSION to tell them and they won't feel like they're being sold to.

My Thought for the Day Sunday November 25th 2007
If you feel it, you usually say it -- or struggle mightily to stop yourself. It doesn't matter whether it's politically correct to bring the subject up, you're a big believer in total honesty. That goes double for today.

Be Thankful You're Not A Turkey!
If you can't think of anything else to be thankful for this year, just be thankful you're not a turkey!

Every year we go through all the preperations for Thanksgiving, spending more than we can afford, getting the house and the kids and everything else ready to either go to be with family and friends or to prepare the meal and have family and friends over.

Sometimes we might think that it's more of a hassle than anything.

Let me tell you, I've been in attendance of quite a few "Jerry Springer" thanksgivings when family seems to only want to bring up the past and argue about things that shouldn't even matter any more. Instead of being thankful for the family they've been blessed with, they're too busy thinking about all the past wounds and digging up old bones to even think about their blessings.

One year we broke away from the normal tradition. We were stuck in South Texas and had no place to live. We found out first hand what it was like to be homeless. We had to accept hand outs and stayed for about two months at the Salvation Army shelter and it wasn't easy. My children were complaining about what little we had and had sad faces so I decided that I would show them that they had so much to be thankful for even then.

There was a little kitchen set up by one of the local churches and they were always asking for volunteers, so I signed up our family to do the serving. My children put on their little aprons and stood behind the serving line and after a few minutes of complaining that they were hungry and whining about having to wait until everyone else was served before they could sit down and eat the wonderful feast, a few people started to come to be fed.

Amongst them was a young man about 19 years old who had cerebral palsy. He was not able to speak clearly, and he could barely walk, but he had come from several blocks away and had walked here just to get a hot meal. His entire life had been lived in abject poverty. His parents who had raised him were now gone and he had no one.

Next came a young couple who had three small children. They had been left homeless when their house and all their possessions were burned in a fire. They had a high chair brought over to the table for the baby that wouldn't be there this time. He had died of smoke inhalation.

Another person came who was mentally ill and was talking to himself.
Then an elderly woman came who had once held a high position in the community, but now she was old and forgotten by society. She wore old ragged clothes and smelled of urine. But she like everyone else there was a human being who was just as valuable to the Lord as anyone else.

As each person came up to get their food I watched my children's faces change from the whiny kids they'd come in as to the servants of the Lord they had just become. They were getting a great lesson in how much they had to be thankful for. They had two parents who loved them, and although they didn't have a home of their own, they had a roof over their head and food to eat.

They were courteous and asked each person what they could get for them. They were no longer thinking of their own empty stomachs. They were learning how to love someone else and offer their service to them.

After the last person sat down, we were all allowed to get our plates. My children were quiet. Then my son looked at me with big tears in his eyes and said, Mama, I'm thankful that you allowed me to do this. I'll never forget what I learned today. We've got it pretty good compared to most of these people.

I hugged and kissed my babies and realized what a blessing God had given me. And I think of this every year when I sit down to eat my dinner.
Even if it's just a bowl of soup in a soup kitchen, if there are people there, God's there too.

Each Day There's Something New to Share
Every day when I get online I learn something new or find something worth sharing. Or at least to me it is. Maybe you might not be interested and I totally understand that. But I would still appreciate to hear from you if there's something I bring to the table that helps you or inspires you in some way. So please feel free to comment. Even if you hate it, it'll help me to improve my writing style or give me an idea what it is that would help you the most. Keep those cards and letters coming folks;)

My Thought for the Day Blog
I often just write about what comes to my mind when writing a blog and sometimes it can get pretty long. I'll admit I tend to go overboard with my thoughts at times. But for this blog I plan to keep it short and just write a snippet or two every day about my day to day struggles and/or insights into working online and marketing.

If I get too longwinded feel free to smack me on the head or throw a brick at me:)
