But then there are some sites that just smell fishy. There's just
something about them that screams SCAM and you know that there's no way
that they could pay the amount of money they claim to pay and still
stay afloat.
Even when people report these sites, they have to have some type of
proof or they can be sued for slander or liable. So how do you go about
proving that a site is a scam?
One way is to pay close attention to the red flags that come up, for
instance, if the owner/admin isn't available or they have false contact
information or worse, no contact information.
Check the
whois database. Run the domain name at
whois.net
and look to see who owns the site and how long it's been in operation.
Check the information on the site against the information at whois. If
they don't match, it's probably not legit. You might also search for it
on the high traffic scam report sites like
scam.com and see if there have been any previous reports.
Check the statistical information, such as how much has been paid
in/out and how many members are online. If it doesn't change, then the
owner is probably just manipulating the script to show what he wants to
show.
Last but not least, talk to people and get their experiences with this
site. Have they been paid? Have they been in contact with the owner?
Were they friendly or did they evade certain questions?
Before you invest any money in anything online, make sure you do your
due diligence and check out everything you can to make reasonably sure
that it's legitimate and don't just take someone's word for it.
If you have any doubt about a site or business opportunity,
make a report and we will be more than happy to check it out for you.
